U.S. government program aims to mobilize 10,000 Americans to welcome refugees through private sponsorship in 2023
ORAM is proud to join over 200 organizations in signaling support for Welcome Corps, a new service opportunity for private sponsorship. Through Welcome Corps, the U.S. government aims to mobilize Americans to welcome refugees, including LGBTIQ refugees, some of the most vulnerable refugees globally.
The U.S. has a strong tradition of welcoming refugees. Last year, Americans stepped up to receive first our Afghan allies and then, less than six months later, Ukrainians displaced by war and, recently, vulnerable populations fleeing violence and oppression in our own hemisphere.
The Welcome Corps will build on this incredible willingness to welcome by making it possible for everyday Americans, and a broader range of American institutions, to privately sponsor refugees from across the world in search of safety in the U.S., including LGBTIQ refugees.
